Every home has three or four moments a day where it needs one more seat or six more inches of height: tying shoes in the entryway, reaching the top shelf, letting a child wash their own hands, perching with a coffee while the kettle boils. The Folda answers all of them and then folds to 3.5 in thick — thin enough for the gap beside the fridge, a hallway cabinet, or under a bed.

The frame is solid light oak with an X-shaped folding mechanism that has been used in European seating for generations because it is genuinely the simplest thing that works. It opens with one hand, locks positively when weight is applied, and releases with a lift of the seat. The woven seat is tensioned by hand over the rails, which gives it a slight give that a rigid wooden seat lacks — comfortable for a ten-minute sit, not just a step.

Because it is oak rather than plastic or tubular steel, it is a piece you can leave out: the grain, the rounded corners and the cream weave read as part of the room. The finish is a clear water-based lacquer that resists water splashes — important, because the most common job for this stool is standing next to a sink.
